Day 405: 27th Oct, 2010

Sometimes you need an external trigger for some things to happen. Not that you don't want to do it, but just that you may be a little apprehensive to actually commit to it. So when Chatur showed me the SMS sent by Spicmacay informing us that the artist had to be confirmed immediately, I actually was kinda happy :D . And that is how INDEX'10 gets it's first major performance :-)

Buoyed by this, I immediately jumped on to my Discover and went with Vanki to the city (badly dug up everywhere! I think I must have inhaled 2-3 kgs dust today.) to hunt for some local sponsorship. Mostly people weren't even in office. Did get to meet a few people though, and gather some mild to some slightly-enthusiastic responses. Sometimes, it is just good to take that leap of faith and see how things work out! And how did that work out. When I came back to campus, understood that Kisaan also had some nice news at his end. Great job! We are now one-up as compared to last year ;-)

Day 396: 18th Oct, 2010 - Why's the blog private?!

CBM paper today. A typical fin paper. One where you look at the practice examples and feel all confident that you are going to 'crack it'. And then, the tryst with reality where a minor twist in the question brings your dream down like a pack of cards :D

The paper was in the noon. I had missed my lunch as I had squeezed in the 5 minutes I had spared, to complete some formalities required for opening my demat account. So I was quite hungry after the paper and had a samosa and Amul Kool and came back to my room. But very soon, the news started pouring in from all quarters that awesome burgers were being available in the mess! Now when words of praise start coming from stark opponents of the mess, there obviously was a strong urgency to get the burger, lest it runs out. Of in spite of not being very hungry, I went to the mess. Met Chatur there, and had a mini spicmacay/music discussion. Then walked to the main gate ATM, as I wanted to test if my SBI card was working (yes!). Took a small shortcut walk around the campus, and then made my way back to the mess to take extra burgers back as parcel for Pachpan & Kisaan. The only person who didn't like the gesture seems to be Vanki; competition for his "restaurant" you see! ;-)

The saga of eating out continues! Today, on Vanki's request, we (also Pachpan + Kisaan) made our way to the no-longer-jinxed Brij-ki-rasoi. The highlight was Vanki's super-awesome hindi usage at one point. He actually used the word "yadi" in a sentence rather than the commonplace "agar"! I really wonder where he heard that word in the first place. And as for food, we had a quick, tasty and typical dinner - Rajma for Vanki, aaloo for Pachpan and one standard Paneer dish.

Pssst. It's my birthday now :-) . But nobody knows ;-) . I don't want external sources to provide this data, and so am off the social radar. No etrigan, no facebook, and hence, no blog :-p . Lots of calls from outside IIML though. Had a Skype chat with my folks at home. They cut a cake in my name! :-) . No wonder I love technology!

Day 217: 6th Feb, 2010

Boy, as I write this, my alarms to wake me up are going off :D . God knows why I set alarms at 6 am.. (Does it matter that I had a small nap from midnight to 4 am ;-) :-p )

As I spoke about the MIS class incident two days back, turns out the prof eventually asked the poor fellow to say sorry in front of the class. I don't think it achieved anything other than satisfying his ego.

Had a lecture on BTL marketing by a couple of guys from 141 Sercon. About the increasing relevance of using non-traditional methods of marketing esp. social networking. You could get more details on the session at my friend's blog.

Had our second SPIC MACAY performance, this time by the flute maestro Pt. Rajendra Prasanna. I don't understand much about the technicalities in music, but those natural sounds are very pleasant and soothing to hear.

Deshpande, Sud and me decided to have pizzas for dinner. We were randomly calling people to check if they would join us. Aman was one such call.

In that context, the conversation should have gone as:
Aman: Hi
Me: Oyee, pizza khaega?
Aman: blah blah ..

But it went like this:
Aman: Hi, who is this?
Me: (oh! so he doesn't recognise my number) .. (tough voice) Is this Aman Arora?
Aman: (a little nervous) Yea..
Me: This is the UP state police department speaking. (!!!!!! I have no clue why I thought of that!) Do you think you can get away with anything just because you are an IIM student?
Aman: (I can feel his voice becoming more tense) Sir, what have I done?
Me: (Raising my voice) Don't try to act. We know everything.

and so on for a good one minute.. and that was because I just HAD to laugh out loudly.. so I disconnected the call :D . Of course, we did tell him who we were in the next couple of minutes :p.

Chatted along for a while waiting for the pizzas. Ghate and Yogsconnect joined in later. Dominos cheese burst is so wow! :D

Day 62: 21th Aug, 2009

There are some things that you think are humanly impossible till you actually see a human doing it. But then again, they have risen from being mere mortals to being an immortal God in the art. As the first inaugural event of SPIC MACAY - IIM L chapter, we had a performance by Pt. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on the Mohan Veena (his creation!). He was accompanied by Pt. Ram Kumar Mishra on the tabla. And boy, it was just awesome!

Now don't jump to conclusions and think it is because I am overtly involved with such stuff. No, am just another average guy, with just a general interest in most things. Infact, I hadn't even heard this person's name before! But he is a famous fellow, has won 3 Grammy awards and stuff, so the buzz was high. All I did was go there with a fresh open mind. And heard some absolutely brilliant music. I had learnt the word 'enthralling' years ago, but experienced it yesterday.

Btw, presentations in our BIO class are showing a larger element of fun (and boldness) nowadays. Last week, we had a presentation on the topic of child/adult something where there was a 5 min role play. 'The Rock' comes for his part, and in that 1 minute, takes super duper potshots at the three famous incidents of our class - Dhamdhere's OM remark, the why-dint-I-get-beer mail and Mr.Clear & Concise. But the fun was when the audience reacted with increased questions such as - so what if the person is like A Rock , will it still hold true? :D . I had bunked today's BIO session. We had a presentation by the class accountant TG wala group. But apparently in their example, they pronounced this chick of our class as sister to Mishra's underwear-alter ego pseudonym :-p .

Had my final INDEX presentation today. The last effort from my side for the committee tasks. Am happy it went off decently well :) .
